Reflecting on my Goals for the Semester: I achieved most of my goals for this semester. I really wanted to learn more about how to use my camera and how it functions. I learned a lot about this when we studied the manual mode on our cameras. Additionally, one of my biggest goals for the semester was to learn how to print photos in the darkroom, which I became very good at during our darkroom unit. However, I'm still not great at using my camera in low light, but with the skills I now possess, I know it will be a lot easier to figure out.
Out of 5, I think I scored around a 4 in terms of planning, shooting, and editing my assignments. I always got them done, but I would often wait until the last minute to shoot my photos, which often meant they weren’t my best work because I was rushing to get them done. This is the main thing I would want to improve when it comes to my workflow and organization. I know that if I stop procrastinating my work, I will have more time to make my work the best that it can be. A lot of the time, when I would go out to take photos, I wouldn't have a solid plan in mind, but I would instead wait for inspiration to come to me. I think that if I have a plan in mind before going on photoshoots, I could more efficiently take more and better photos.
I think my biggest success of the semester was the darkroom unit. I feel like I learned a lot of new skills that I had never had a chance to learn before, and I was able to master them to create successful products. Not only that, but I also really enjoyed being in the darkroom and working with new materials. In the darkroom, I learned how to use the different chemicals and settings on the enlarger. I also learned about the different types and colors of light that affect light-sensitive photo paper. Learning these skills made it easier for me to be successful in printing my photos.
This semester, I want to learn more about how to use my camera and all of its functions as well as learn how to use it in low light or at night. I want to learn more about color and how to use it to enhance a photo to make it more visually appealing. I also want to learn how to use different types of cameras and what effects they have, as well as go into the dark room and learn how to develop film. Mostly, I want to become more familiar with my own camera and know all the functions and what they do to an image. I think we could have some interesting assignments to photograph at night.
