Throughout the semester, I completed my goals daily. Every time I went out with family or for practice, I would try something new with either my camera or phone, while thinking about lighting, angles, and scenery. By doing so, I expanded my skill set. My first goal was hoping to continue my learning on different ways to take photos, which I believe I completed. Each assignment we had focused on different ways to take a good photo with a variety of ideas. My second goal was improving on past skills I had learned from photo one, such as leading lines, framing, or the rule of thirds. When we went to Bowdoin, I tried my best to use these strategies, and with the experience I had from last year, my photos turned out great. And finally, my last goal was to improve my skills by taking daily photos. I completed this goal by taking photos when I went to soccer practice, home from the gym, and even when I went out to dinner with my family.
On a scale of 5 on how effective I was in terms of planning, shooting, and editing my photos, I think I sit at a 4. 1 of my assignments I had forgotten about and was left with 2 days to do it, which decreased the level. Photo 2 sits at. But other than that, I believeI did very well with the 2 other requirements, especially editing. I believe I have learned so much about editing photographs that I am confident enough to edit my everyday photos when I'm not in photo class after High School. And one work habit that I'd like to change is completing our assignments earlier.
My biggest successes this semester was taking black and white photography. Before this class, I think I had never taken a black and white photo before, and now it's my favorite type. When we went to Bowdoin, I took very unique black and white photographs that I was super proud of, including the one of the bike above, in this class, I was most proud of how well I understood the dark room process. It took a few classes to understand the steps, but after I got it down, it was super fun and easy. It impacted my learning through taking my time with complicated steps that turn into something beautiful
Photo 1 had expanded my thinking on what photography is. I used to think it was just standing straight and hoping to get a good photo, but I had learned that to get a good photo you needed angles, good lighting, and scenery. During this class, I hope to continue my learning on different ways to take photos while also improving on past skills I learned from last year. Some things that would help me improve my skills is practicing taking daily photos whenever I go out for walks or at practices.
