Purpose:
To use the correct facial proportions to draw yourself as accurately as you can;
To draw the individual features, eyes, nose, mouth in a convincing 3D way;
To use the “grid” method to help you draw accurately;
To use charcoal and a stomp to show value changes and dimension.
Reflection:
Throughout this project, I got a lot of feedback from my friends and Mrs. Price. I would ask them questions like, “Does my face shape look like mine? Should I make it smaller or bigger? How’s my eye shape? Did I add too much shading here?” They would help me get the proportions correct and the details in the right spot to make my drawing the best it could be. After the feedback, I went to work to try fixing my mistakes and adding extra detail. I had a lot of help with my eyes, positioning of my eyebrows, face shape, and nose. I learned that it is crucial to get the proportioning right before shading. With my shading and proportioning, I have come a long way from the composite to the final drawing. I learned to not draw harsh lines as the outline of the nose looking straight on, but to shade and make it smooth. I also learned that the top lip is shaded darker than the bottom.
