The assignment I am most proud of from the semester is the Self-Portrait Charcoal Drawing. When thinking about drawing and painting projects we have done, in my opinion, this is kind of the headliner. This was most definitely the most intimidating project when it was introduced, and honestly, the one with the most potential to go wrong. I am proud of this assignment because while I don't think it looks exactly like me, and there are certainly things that could be improved, I spent so, so much time going over each proportion, detail, and line on my drawing, hunched in front of the mirror, trying to transfer my 3D features into lines on a 2D piece of paper, asking friends and teachers for advice, and I am proud of the journey. I worked hard on this drawing, and I really enjoyed using the charcoal pencils, white pencils, molded erasers, blending stomps, cotton cloths, etc. Using these tools is undoubtedly my favorite medium of art! I also really like realism, so that made me enjoy this process even more. At last, I think it is so exciting for me to have a self-portrait I made freshman year of high school to look back at in future years, and to compare to if I ever go through this process again.Â
