In addition to meaningful classroom-based experiences, we want students to be active, engaged learners who make connections between the classroom and the world around them to explore who they are and what matters to them.
To this end, in the fall of 2025, YHS launched “The Compass Project,” a four-year series of activities that asks students to reflect on their in-school and out-of-school experiences and connect the learning from those experiences to their development as a person, thinker, and community member. The essential questions and activities are aligned with the Maine Department of Education Career Ready Standards. To meet the Compass Project graduation requirement, students must successfully complete the required activities for each of their years at YHS.
