CP Modern World History

Course Overview

This course introduces you to the history of the world since the 1500s. This period is referred to as “modern” not because it is a period of modern inventions like television and computers, but because of modern thinking - the fundamental belief that people can understand and improve the world in which they live. On this basis there have been radical changes in politics, economics, religion, culture, technology and more. While many changes in thinking are rooted in Western Europe, this is a world history course. We will address forces and patterns of change in Africa, the Americas and Asia as well as in Europe over the last 500 years in order to give students insights into many of the issues facing our world today.
