Purpose:
To determine where values change when light moves over an uneven surface by using a range of values to paint the different values in a realistic, monochromatic self-portrait;
To effectively communicate an image that looks like you through careful examination of the values and structure of your face.
Reflection:
The key factors that are necessary to paint facial features are layers of coloring, value contrast, and making sure that focal points on your face are highly visible. When you are painting your eyes you need to make sure that you get the right brush size, so that you get them a crisp color that defines your face. For your nose, you want to make sure that you use different values so that it looks like your nose is outlined when it really isn’t. Using different values, such as white, grey, and black, will help add definition to your nose, to make it seem like it’s outlined.
