I learned a lot of concepts this semester, but the three most important ones, in my opinion, are proportions, perspective, and value. Proportions are important to your learning because when you are drawing or painting, you need to make sure your objects are in the right proportions so that your objects look realistic, and don’t look out of place. Proportions are also important because different objects are of different sizes. In your drawing, you do not want all the objects to be the same size. Perspective is important to your learning because when you are drawing a picture of objects or something, you want your work to have a realistic impression of depth. Finally, as for value, value is important to learning because everything is not just one color. When you are creating artwork, when you are looking at objects or pictures, you need to make sure you add value to transition the light to dark areas. Value can be used in different ways also. For example, in the still life drawings we did, value can be transitioned with cross-hatching, hatching, and controlled scribbling. And, for the imitation drawings we did, value can be transitioned by pencil and smudging.
The assignment that I am most proud of this semester is my imitation drawings. I picked my imitation drawings because I spent a good amount of time making sure that my drawings were perfected, and that I produced my best quality of work. Since I decided to do the honors challenge this semester, I had to do two imitation drawings. This challenged my patience as an artist because I had to sit down for a very long time, making sure that every mark and shade looked like the drawing that I was imitating. Lastly, out of both of my imitation drawings, I think my best one was, "Boats on the sea" by, Vincent Van Gogh.
