Code Haven Demo Day is a fun opportunity, that takes place during the first semester, for the students we teach to see computer science in action by learning about real-world CS projects from Yalies and industry engineers. The students will be invited to Yale’s campus, and will get to see lightning talks by Yalies on their own cool CS projects that can range from health tech to facial recognition. The goal is to showcase how CS intersects with various disciplines, and to get the students excited about their own coding projects!
The Code Haven Hackathon is a hands-on, creative event during the second semester where students become real-world problem solvers for the day. Students are split into two age groups: 4-6th graders and 7-8th graders. Working in teams, students choose from three project paths, using the coding skills they have learned throughout the year to design and build their very own Scratch game. By the end of the Hackathon, every team will have a fully working coding project they can be proud of and share with friends, family, classmates, and earn prizes for!
