Welcome to Rafael Casanova High School, Barcelona, Spain. This is the third year our school participates in the Global Scholars Project and we have learnt how important is water in our society and how to avoid to pollute our bodies of water and cities. To decide what topic we wanted to choose we were brainstorming during a few days and most members of our class thought that plastic waste was one of the most challenging problems in our society. So we decided to create a campaign called " Global Scholars against plastic in our cities . Class E-26 decided to create a plastic campaign in their neighbourhood while class E-27 went to our local primary schools to teach younger children of the importance of reducing plastic at home.

Our main goal is to convince our neighbourhood to reduce plastic consumption and recycle to reuse plastic bottles.

We would also like to make our society aware of the dangers that implies to consume so much plastic because it destroys marine life and their ecosystems and pollutes the environment because plastic is made with petrol and petrol produces polluting emissions.

We visited our main restaurants and shops to start with our campaign and convince our neighbours of the importance of reducing plasctic and tried to look for neighbours who spoke English.

We also did some surveys in our community. We asked our neighbours if they used plastic bins and if when they go to the supermarket they use plastic bags or recyclable or clothes bags.

The first step was to visit our neighbourhood´s main restaurants, shops and all kind of business. We realised that most of the materials used to package food or liquids are made of plastic. If you visit your main supermarkets you will realise that the quantity of plastic is enormous and that we are fighting against giant companies that don´t take care of the environment. The most important thing is to become richer. Another challenge is politicians because they don´t protect our environment. Spain is one of the main countries with the highest quantity of pollution. So, the European Community should try to find a way to solve pollution in different countries around the world. Our tip is to try to protect our environment doing llitle things such us Recycle, Reuse and Reduce plastic in our everyday life. If every single person takes action protecting our environment, we are sure thas pollution will decrease.

OUR REFLECTION ON OUR PROJECT IMPACT
OUR REFLECTION ON OUR PROJECT IMPACT
Our conclusion is that we have refreshed our neighboourhood how to continue protecting our environment and that most members of our community take action doing llittle actions everyday. We think that younger students at primary school are very concerned about the dangers of plastic in our environment and that elderly people are the most eco-friendly and water-wise in our community. However, we have to face that most well-known companies in our cities don´t care if our ecosystems are being damaged, they don´t mind climate change or natural disasters. The most important aim is to increase their economies and government should take action as well to improve our environment and protect it creating new eco-friendly policies.

We want to thank so many people that maybe we could never finish writing them: to start, thanks to all the people who help the environment even if they are not in direct contact with us, it is very important and rewarding everything they do for the world . Even the other day, on a beach in Spain, we saw two girls with a garbage bag, collecting waste like cans, plastic ... etc, that people had thrown away. We also want to thank our teacher for all the effort that we put into this great project to go ahead and grow, without it we would not be so aware: because before she showed us how much we should take care of the world we only had a garbage bag at home and we wasted more food and recyclables. Finally, we thank the parents who teach their children to take care of the world: without them, the next generation would not be formed and above all to our local primary schools that always collaborate with us to perform our English presentations.
