Today was our third day of Erasmus+ mobility in Anatolia School. Today we visited the school library (Anatolia Elementary School Library). It is located in a brand new building with spectacular facilities. We were able to see the whole school and attended a library session with the 2nd grade students. We also visited the library of the Pinewood International School, which is part of the Anatolia Institute. There the students do all their classes in English.
The Anatolia Elementary school has two buildings. The Anatolia School library is located in the new one. This is the first year they are in the new building. In general, it is clear that they have not yet had time to make it one hundred percent their own.
The library was designed to be a magical place. Outside there is a pleasant garden where children can go out to read, play, or do other activities related to literature.
It is organized in different sections: non-fiction fiction in Greek or English, graphic novels, magazines, etc. A curiosity is that the magazines are in a special exhibitor as you can see in the photos.
There is a chair where both the children and the teacher can sit and read a book. This chair has a sound box that allows them to play with the sound as much as they want. It also has a playback system and speakers with which it is possible to listen to music or podcasts.
We have attended a library class in which Effie has explained a story to the students and they have had a talk with the students afterwards. But as they were speaking in Greek we could not follow much of what the children were saying.
Later on, we went around the whole school where we saw an art classroom where the teachers explained that they do projects to decorate the new school.
In the new building there are students from third to sixth grade and in the old one there are first and second grade. There are two lines per level. All the students go by bus to school.
They don't have a reading program, they have had the library for five years and two years ago they had it all prepared but the first two years they didn't have it.
Once a month the librarians meet with the director and the cycle coordinators to agree on everything they need.
They have another building for primary school which is an international school. There, as I have mentioned before, the language of instruction is English.
The library sessions are always done by the librarian of each library but the teachers simply accompany the group.
In the International school library all is in English and there are no books in Greek.
It has been a very successful day because today we have been able to see what the school is like and to know how the school library works. I also loved being able to attend library sessions because I was able to observe exactly what they do and how they do it.
Today I don't have the same feeling I had yesterday and before yesterday, today I have left satisfied and happy, this has been more what I expected to be done in this mobility.
