Final Reflection

We have implemented this project with 2nd of ESO students. We tried to this level for 2 main reasons. Firstly, because we wanted to keep on working with CLIL with the same students as we started last year in 1st of ESO. Secondly, because we needed our students (most of them, of course) to have a better level of English than last year because of the demands of the contents, that is, A2.

After having implemented the project we can state that:

  • The activities could be easily carried out by students, even those with high-level scientific content.

  • The topic touched the near interest of all students and they were very motivated.

  • Even though, some students still don't dare to use English as much as they could.

  • Some other students need regular feedback in Catalan so that they don't have the feeling of losing track.

We realized that in order to implement the project next year again, we have to readjust timing. Although the main concepts were quickly understood thanks to the language support, the final work (Gall Fer infographics) was not finished in the estimated time. Students needed and extra session, as it implied searching and selecting information, designing the infographic, writing the contents and revising the language.

On the other hand, we were happy to see that introducing gamification in some of the activities was a very good idea. For example, the cards game was very engaging, as students liked placing the animals on the biomes map and discovering some important facts about them. Besides, they also liked playing the vocabulary the games we prepared on WordWall. Both activities helped them learn and get familiar with the vocabulary needed to develop the final infographic.
