Final Reflection

We have implemented this project with 1st of ESO students for 2 main reasons:

  1. They are new at the high school and can adapt better to CLIL, since they can accept it as something "normal", and they might not be so shy to speak in English to their teachers. Thus, they can engage better.

  2. We can establish a long-term project util 4th of ESO and so analyse the results at the end of the full GEP project.

After having carried it out, we can confirm our first fears:

  • Students don't dare to use English as much as they could.

  • Some students need regular feedback in Catalan so that they don't have the feeling of losing the track.

But we are also happy to state that:

  • Students have welcomed this project very positively!

  • They have listened to the instructions in English quite patiently and have done their best to cope with the activities in this foreign language.

It is true that CLIL demands to slow down and simplify contents, and it has been a challenge when preparing the materials to find sources adapted to their English level.
