When you start playing chess, it is really important to put the chessboard in a correct position.

Remember: The white square has to be situated on your right-hand side. white on the right

• Can you identify the picture where the chessboard is in a correct position?

• Follow the instructions and set up the chess pieces:

1. Put the pawns on the second rank, each on a different square.

2. Put your rooks on the corners, one on each side of the chessboard.

3. Place your knights next to the rooks.

4. Place the bishops next to the knights.

5. The queen goes on her own colour:

• a white queen on a white square.

• a black queen on a black square.

6. Put the king on the last empty square.
