This is a project centered in lateral thinking. After watching and listening to the TED Talk”Life Lessons from an Ad Man” by publicist executive Rory Sutherland, students have to create an advertisement in the format of their choice, where they must present a known product in a new way without changing anything in it. They will work in groups and, at the end, each group will present their ad and prepare an oral presentation justifying their decisions. Our goals, therefore, are the following:
- Understanding and applying some basic economic and advertising concepts.
- Learning to watch publicity in a more critical way.
- Understanding the relationship (or lack thereof) between message and product.
- Using brainstorming as a technique for generating ideas.
- Creating an ad in video or poster format using the concepts learnt
- Justifying the decisions taken in the designing of the ad in an oral presentation.
- Commenting critically their partners' work.
- Discussing and deciding the ad analysis and the assessment criteria.
