Student personal kit (clothing and footwear)

Below is a generic DofE Bronze kit list with additional information to assist you with making informed decisions when providing this.  An expedition specific kit list will be shared with you by your Crew Leader.

Having the right clothing and footwear is imperative.  Students will be walking approximately 10km per day and need sturdy, supportive hiking boots. Trainers are not good enough, as in addition to the length of the hike they will be carrying a 75 litre rucksack with all their kit, equipment and food. In addition to having walking boots, quality hiking socks help reduce the likelihood of blisters.

Water proof jacket and trousers are also a must. These need to be fully water repellant, not just shower proof. Once clothing gets wet it is unlikely they will dry by the next morning.

Cotton is also not recommended and denim is not allowed. When cotton gets wet it reduces body temperature whilst synthetic fabrics allow the body to stay warm.

Long sleeves and long trousers are recommended, even in hot weather to avoid insect bites, ticks, nettle stings and sunburn.

Please speak with your crew leader or expedition supervisor if you are having difficulties providing these items.
