The theme will be from one of the topics you have already studied - it will make links between the human and physical aspects of the course. The issue and topic changes every year.
A resource booklet will be given to you 12 weeks before the exam so you become familiar with the issue - you can annotate and make notes on this copy but you cannot take it into the exam. You will be given a new, clean copy in the exam.
In the exam, you will be asked to make decisions and judgements based on the resources provided, using evidence to support your decisions.
See the slides below which show an example from the 2018 pre-release booklet.
You will need to undertake two types of fieldwork - one on Human and one on Physical.
These will relate to the theory you have studied in Paper 1 and 2.
For our Human fieldwork we are focusing on the work relating to the 'Urban Issues and Challenges' Unit and it will be focusing on the regeneration of Sheffield's CBD. Our Physical will be linked to the 'Physical Landscapes UK' unit and we will be carrying out fieldwork at Burbage Brook in the Peak District.
You will be assessed on your own fieldwork and unseen fieldwork in Paper 3.
Please find the resources below to help you.
These are the lessons that we used before and after our fieldwork day.
The slides include:
theory/context of Sheffield
Sample types
Method justifications
Data presentation examples (not using our data!) and justifications
Evaluations, reliability and limitations of data collected
Conclusions
You have been assigned a write up doc on Google Classroom, like the one here, to record all your fieldwork methods, presentation and evaluations.
Make sure it is complete as you will need be assessed on our fieldwork in your exam and you'll need this for revision. Use the one here which has some sections written up/some sections with notes to help you.
