On Blended Learning
Blended Learning is an important pivot in supporting the learning journey of every XMS student throughout their secondary education. It aims to develop them to be self-directed, passionate and life-long learners. Students will be given opportunities to learn at their own pace and will be empowered to take charge of their own learning. There will be also be dedicated time and space which encourages them to pursue their own interests and learn outside of the curriculum.
Blended Learning comprises of two components:
-Home-Based Learning (HBL) &
-Student Initiated Learning (SIL)HBl is Integrated into our school timetable and occurs biweekly (odd week) for the first semester with an addition of 3 consecutive days in the 2nd semester.
On HBL days, curriculum coverage is through learning activities that are designed to empower students to develop digital literacies and self-regulate their own learning. This includes them planning and pacing the structure their own learning for the day. Interweaved is also an hour of of passion discovery where they take steps to further strengthen their area of interest. Students can also make use of their personal learning devices (PLDs) to create artefacts and curate these into their e-portfolios. Though monitoring their own growth, selecting and curating learning evidences requires dispositions such as reflection and skills of being able to set goals. plan ahead and acting on their goals.
Through Blended_Learning@XMS, our school hopes that each of our students can make use of Blended Learning to develop the necessary knowledge, skills and depositions to be future-ready and adaptive learners in this digital era.
