Our counseling program provides instruction, appraisal and advisement, and counseling:
Large-group instruction
The school offers unique opportunities for the community to come together and learn valuable information on creating a loving and safe community. Schoolwide programs and initiatives are shared in this large setting and further enhanced within the classroom and halls of Xavier Middle School.
Classroom Lessons
The school counselor meets with students in classrooms every other week. Providing skills and a foundation to help them navigate through middle school. The focus could be on social and emotional skills, organization, goal setting, career exploration, or a highlighted topic that can enhance our school community.
Small Groups
The school meets with small groups when needed to help enhance specific tools. These short-term groups meet for six weeks and focus on enriching a specified area. Topics within small groups might include organizing, anxiety, friendship, goal setting, and bullying prevention.
Individualized counseling
The school counselor provides opportunities to meet in individual settings to help with short-term counseling and tools to navigate individual needs.
Indirect Services:

Referrals
Teachers and parents have the opportunity to reach out to the school counselor if they think a meeting between the student and the school counselor would be beneficial.
The school counselor can also refer to outside sources to help your child succeed.
Consultation
A mutual sharing and analysis of information and ideas to help plan and implement strategies to help students succeed.
Collaboration
School counselors working with parents and stakeholders, both inside and outside Xavier Middle School, to develop and implement educational programs that support students.
