Kevin Saint Grey
Kevin Saint Grey, also known as Kevin Kwok, is a fine art photographer with a minimalist aesthetic style specialized in architecture, landscapes, and abstracts. He shoots in only black and white and makes simple things become interesting. He lives in Los Angeles, California with his dog.
The Los Angeles based photographer masters the art of detail and precision. Kevin Saint Grey incorporates everything minimal to create breathtaking and magnificent images. He has an evident fascination with architecture and landscape, as displayed in his 2006 Mono series. 2008’s collection, Nocturnes, focuses on sky and is completely monochromatic. He achieves this by shooting all his photos with long exposers.
Saint Grey returned to his architectural niche for the 2009-2011 series, Stealth Bomber. He emphasized lines of buildings by photographing at extreme angles to catch the eye.
Saint Grey developed a collection in 2010 - 2013 which explored photographic reductionism. By method of camera movement during exposure, he created a composition of lines. These intentional blurred lines created such a movement, such photographic genius, and such enigma.
Mastering everything minimal and reductionist in colour and black and white, Kevin Saint Grey’s work is one of a kind.
My work links to Kevin Saint Greys work as when I went to take my photos, I took simple buildings and took shots from different angles to make it look more abstract and unique pictures like Kevin Saint Grey. When editing, I made sure to make the sky and clouds a big part of the photos as that is that makes Kevin Saint Greys Photos unique.
Image Analysis
This Photo is from Kevin Saint Grey is the front of the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles. This is one of many of his many minimalist aesthetic shots that has very pleasing to the eye.
In this image you can see how the angle that the photo was taken at really makes this photo unique. He uses the different sections of the building as layers to build up the foundations of the photo. He has created a very dark and dull mood due to the black and white style through all of his photos. He has used a large D. O. F To make sure the whole image is captured. He also uses reflection to highlight the lighter parts of the image and to add detail. The long exposer time is used to create the gradient in the sky to add boldness to the photo.
Kevin Saint Grey has used the lines of the building to add clarity and texture to the photo by making the bolder and a key part of the photo.
This image can show how the power of angles and judgement can turn a normal building into something eye-catching and unique.

Evaluation
Throughout this project i think i have improved in lots of skills and also come across a lot of challenges. I think i have improved my editing skills when it comes to miner details that do not seem a lot at fist but when paired with other miner details they can change a lot of things. I have also improved on choosing the right settings on my camera opening a lot of windows. One thing I have struggles with is when replicating Kevin Saint Grey's work, I struggled with getting the exposure of the sky right although i did try to fix it on camera raw and Photoshop. Overall, I think I have developed a lot of skills throughout the project and overcome a lot of challenges in the past weeks. I think that my best photo was my first DSLR of the buildings. I think i captured the perfect lighting and the perfect setting for that picture.
