Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) of 1985.  The main provision of this legislation with respect to health care coverage is that most group health plans must provide each participant and qualified beneficiaries under the plan the option to pay for continued coverage for a specified period of time under the plan in the event coverage would otherwise have ceased as a result of one of a number of “qualifying events.”
