Grade 7

Course Selections

Your selections are not guaranteed and only serve as a preference for your course.  We must balance the number of students in each class which may result in your child not getting their primary options.

Exploratory courses meet every other day during one trimester in the school year.

Fan Fiction

Our love for our favorite stories is able to continue to grow even after we close a book or finish a movie! Exploring the world of fanfiction allows writers to use their creativity and imagination to craft original works inspired by the stories they have grown to love. Students will compare and contrast original works of fanfiction writing to identify the author's craft, character development, narration, figurative language and endings. Writers will use these models to then craft their own chapters of an original fanfiction writing piece.

Uncovering History's Mysteries

This exploratory is an opportunity to delve into topics like the assassination of JFK  and who really was Shakespeare. How do historians decide who and what events get accepted as history? How are people like Nikola Tesla, Jim Thorpe, or Alice Paul overlooked? Students act as historians and detectives to look at a variety of sources from biographical and primary sources to rumors or second-hand accounts. Let's solve some mysteries!

Theme Park Design

Who doesn't want to be a Disney Imagineer?  Using the Khan Academy's Imagineers in a Box website, students will work as Imagineers to design Disney's next theme park.  Through this course, students will create a themed world with corresponding attractions and a rollercoaster.  Who will get the most visitors to their theme park?  Let's Fast Pass into the future and find out!

Music is required  in grade 7 at EMS.  You may select either Instrumental, Vocal Music, or Music Engineering. Music meets every other day for the duration of the whole school year.

The sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade instrumental music courses form the intermediate level in a sequential learning process that begins in grade four and extends through high school. Students are taught every other day with their specified instrument, then once a week with the whole band/orchestra.

Music Engineering

This course is designed for students to build their pre-existing musical knowledge through an engineering platform. Students who select this course would exit the instrumental and vocal music program and instead curate leadership and ingenuity within the arts as global citizens. Students gain real-world experiences by having classes within professional studios and or venues. Students will learn beginner piano/keyboard skills, compose and record for a specific purpose using Soundtrap, record/ Mix/Produce a live session/concert, create a podcast for a specific purpose, and film score.
