Participation in the fair is voluntary; students may decide not to participate or withdraw from the fair at any time (but we encourage you to ask our mentors for help before deciding to withdraw!)
Parents or guardians must agree to be responsible for oversight and safety of students’ science or engineering projects. Parents are encouraged to assist students in identifying projects that can be conducted safely. Any project that breaks district policy, and/or local, state, or federal laws is NOT permitted.
Parents should help students select a project that can be done primarily on their own with little assistance. Parents should provide oversight and act as a resource, but the students should do the work. It is okay for parents to help with preparing project presentations, particularly for younger students.
Submitting projects that aren’t of the students’ own design is discouraged. While there are many project ideas available on the internet, we encourage students to use these as a basis for designing a project of their own, rather than repeating a project they find online.
The Virtual Fair will be accessible only to members of the Happy Valley school community. Parents/guardians are encouraged to directly share the link to the Fair with other family members and individuals important in students’ lives. Posting the link publicly or sharing via social media is not permitted.
Remember to have fun while completing the project. The purpose of the science fair is for students to explore science and engineering in a meaningful way. That means picking a project that is interesting to the student!
