Collection Development

Books and other media selection is based on the Harwood Union Middle & High School curriculum, student reading and interest levels, student and faculty input, and current library inventory. Emphasis is placed on providing high quality resources that represent a balance of perspective.

De-Selecting/Weeding Library Materials

De-selection, or weeding, is one of the most essential aspects of collection development. It is necessary to weed outdated, inaccurate, and/or unused materials. A plan for continuous, methodical weeding is implemented to keep shelves relevant and up-to-date.

Discarding De-Selected Items

Items in good condition with accurate, non-biased content will be:

  • Offered to members of the school community or other school libraries (duplicates).

Biased or inaccurate content material will be discarded.
