PREPARE

What to wear & how to prepare!

  • Water resistant snow pants and jacket suitable to weather and temperature

  • One pair of socks (polyester or ski designed socks)

  • Active-wear long underwear (anything cotton is not recommended)

  • Gloves or mittens (mittens better when cold)

  • Helmet (see below)

  • Goggles or sunglasses, neck gaiter or face mask, sunscreen

  • Get a good night’s sleep, eat a hearty breakfast, and be ready to smile!

helmets

The use of helmets is essential for skier safety. Helmets are not built to last a lifetime. Experts recommend replacing your helmet after 3-5 years of use. Make sure you double check the fit of the helmet on your child's head. Pay attention to how snug the helmet feels and if your child complains about anything that hurts. Do not size a helmet with room to grow. If it is too large, it is unsafe.

Not only are helmets comfortable to wear while skiing or riding, they can prevent head injuries and even save your life. Helmets for skiing and snowboarding are designed for cold weather, keep your head warm and comfortable, work with goggles and are certified to protect you.

EQUIPMENT

If your child needs to rent ski or ride equipment for the program, local shops offer inexpensive season-long rentals. We recommend that you have your child’s ski equipment tuned and have a binding check performed before the beginning of the season. Local mountains and ski shops provide this service. We recognize that purchase or rental of equipment is costly. Please contact Jean Berthiaume if you need financial support.

PASSES

Sugarbush and Mad River Glen kindly invite us to ski at their mountains free of charge. Unless you have noted on the registration form that your child already has a pass, Sugarbush will issue them a SugarXpress RFID card that will allow them lift access on winter sports days. Students are responsible for this card! Your child is to keep the RFID card in their left jacket pocket for the entire season. Please do not put this card on a chain, clip, pin, lanyard, or badge reel. There will be a $5 fee for forgotten or lost cards!
