Take Action
We decided we would help young students gain awareness about our environment. We decided a fun way is creating educational activities and allowing them to design shirts.
We decided to have three stations (listed below) and one large drawing area. The 42 students would be split into 6 groups of 7. Out of the 6 groups, half of the groups would participate in the shirt coloring area while the other half will be interacting with the 3 stations. After the 3 rotating groups have completed every station, the entire class would swap and the coloring station would move to the activity station and vice versa.
Apple seeds
We cut up apples for the little kids to try and figure out which apple they liked best. They would then be able to pick the seeds they like the best and plant it at their home.
Cup flip
The kids had to go against, 1 v 1 each other in a cup flip game. When they successfully land, they get to move their "turtle" closer to food and away from plastic. Whoever got the food first, wins.
Recycle Race
The kids split up into the teams and uncrumble scattered papers on the floor. They must identify whether the paper belongs to trash, compost, or recyle and then take it to their pile if it matches their team type. First team to finish their pile wins.
Drawing Station
We had a pile of coloring pages of animals for the kids to pick from. The kids picked their favorite sheet and spent it coloring for 30 minutes.
After the lesson, we spent the day designing the shirts using their coloring pages and then printing them onto heat transfer paper. We cut, ironed, and wrote on the shirts. It took a few tries to get it done, but we finally did it. We returned to the school another day in order to deliver them their shirts.
