What I have done would be first being informed of the issues that the UN wanted to focus on to better the world, that would be by having been familiarized with the SDG's, and I would reflect and want to focus on the issue of SDG 4 with "Quality Education."
For our senior year capstone project, we were tasked with identifying a global issue and translating it into a local initiative. To ensure accountability and guidance, each student was assigned an advisor—an adult mentor overseeing the project throughout the year. We began by submitting proposals that required teacher approval to confirm alignment with AGS objectives.
What we have done for the past few weeks? Regarding AGS for senior year?
For our senior year project, we were tasked with finding a global issue that could be turned into a local issue. We were assigned advisors, who are adults overseeing our project for the year. We submitted proposals and obtained teacher sign-offs on whether the problem was related to AGS.
Now for the important Question what am i thinking for my project? And the issue im focusing on?
One of my project ideas focuses on environmental sustainability, aligning with SDG 13: Climate Action. My goal is to establish a team dedicated to reforestation efforts in Forest Park and surrounding areas where tree coverage is insufficient. This initiative would involve partnering with environmental nonprofits, organizing volunteer efforts, and directly contributing to restoring natural ecosystems.
Another issue that could be addressed is promoting responsible consumption. This could be done by connecting with nonprofits or stores like Goodwill and collecting clothes that can be donated. Hosting an event to collect the clothes would reduce waste and promote responsible consumption, which is one of the goals of SDG 12.
Benchmark C deep dive: As part of Benchmark C, I delved deeper into the environmental significance of soil health and its direct connection to climate change. Soil plays a crucial role in carbon sequestration, helping to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. However, soil degradation—caused by factors such as deforestation, overuse of chemical fertilizers, and poor land management—has significantly reduced its ability to store carbon, contributing to global warming.
