For this capstone project, I went to volunteer with the Civic Garden Center of Cincinnati. We went to Parker Woods Montessori in the orchard and the school’s garden.
In just a few hours, we cut back last year’s growth to make way for this season, pruned the fruit trees to ensure they stay healthy, and made way for a new bed location on some preexisting boring lawn space, amazing!
It was a very new and interesting experieance for me. I had NEVER tried gardening before, so when I got there, most of the other volunteers knew the gardening lingo and how to tell if plants were dead, while I knew next to nothing.
This was a very eye-opening experience! I honestly had so much fun meeting new people in an environment that was new to me. I found out that I enjoyed the process of gardening! I was in charge of pruning the raspberry plants, and I found out how to tell whether they were dead. Fun fact - If the stem is green when you cut into it, it means it's alive! Anyway, I had so much fun doing my capstone. It felt amazing to give back to my community and have a direct impact on the world.
