For this first benchmark, we were reintroducing ourselves to the SDGs that we have been learning about for the past four years now.
Task 1: I reached out to my senior advisor and went over the basis of the capstone project. We have an idea of what SDGs I want to focus on, but I still want to delve deeper into the meaning of these SDGs and how I can make an impact in the community using one.
Task 2: I reintroduced myself to each of the SDGs and found out how they connected to me personally. I realized that each of them really connected to aspects in my life that I didn't think about daily, so it was a very introspective experience.
Task 3: I made this website :D. The purpose of task 3 was to start our journey in this capstone experience early, so that I make sure I am blogging every step of the way.
For this next benchmark, we had to narrow down which of the Sustainable Development Goals we wanted to focus our Capstone project on.
Task 1: I selected three possible SDGs that I wanted to potentially base my Capstone project on. I selected SDGs 4, 12, and 15. After I selected them, I found some issues with each SDG that were global and local to my community. I then picked SDG 15 and identified a potential project that I could focus my Capstone around
Task 2: I met with my advisor, Mr.Kress, and went over what I've done so far. It is always very insightful having a conversation with him. I explained what SDGs I had as options to focus on, and identified the one I wanted to focus on.
Task 3: This last task was an issue proposal. I had to answer questions regarding my SDG of choice, and list a potential project that I could do with this issue.
This benchmark included a deep dive into the issue I have chosen, a meeting with Ms. D, and a meeting with my Advisor.
Task 1: I took the time to delve deep into my Issue. I ended up selecting SDG 15 - Life on Land, with a specific focus on deforestation. In my community, there are currently a plethora of houses being built and as a result of that, too many trees are being cut down. I wanted to help the environment and be involved in replanting trees.
Task 2: I met with Ms.Desrosiers so that I could discuss the actual capstone project I wanted centered around my SDG. She was incredibly insightful and helped me narrow down a few possible organizations that I could do my capstone project with.
Task 3: Next, I met with Mr.Kress. As I discussed the project with him, he was very helpful in researching and helping me pick the organization I wanted to work with. He sent me more organizations that I could work with and was very perceptive
In benchmark D, we focused on our take-action plans to start finalizing our project. I went to sign up for a volunteer shift on the Civic Garden Center website. Benchmark E was just implementing our project and updating our Google site. Benchmark F is mostly a reflection on the whole project like how it went, what went wrong, and what went well. And Benchmark G was the finalization of our project!
