Raz Kids

Dear Families,

We have a wonderful online reading program called Raz-Kids! This program will be used at school, but you also have the opportunity to use it at home as well.

Overview:

• Your child's teacher will assign your child to a reading level based on their level and classroom performance.
• Your child needs to earn a checkmark for each of the symbols that are located under each book. (Ear, eye, & question mark) *See "Reading Rule" below.
• Your child earns "stars" for each checkmark that they earn. Near the top of the page you will find a tab labeled, Raz-Rocket. This is the area where students can "buy" items using the stars they earned for reading.
• Once a child earns a checkmark for all symbols, they automatically will be advanced to the next level of books.

*Example: If your child starts on a level C book & they earn a check for all the books on that level, they will automatically be moved to the level D library.

* NOTE: Advancing to the next level of books does not always accurately reflect their reading level at school.

• Home "READING RULES"

If your child logs in at home, we ask you to follow these specific rules below.

1. Only work on 1 book at a time.

• First, listen to the book. (Click the ear)
• Next, read the book. (Click the eye)
• Finally, take the comprehension quiz. (Click the question mark)

* If your child does not pass the quiz the first time: have them listen to the book again & try retaking the quiz.

* If your child does not pass the quiz (earning a checkmark) the second time: move on to another book. I will look at the teacher side of the program, and figure out what type of questions they are missing. We will work on those skills at school.

Feel free to use this as a part of their required nightly reading homework!
