Academic Support
Hello, I am Mrs. Agnello. I am one of the Academic Support Instructors at Washington School. I am a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist, and am certified in Orton- Gillingham through the Institute for Multisensory Education. Teaching students how to read is my passion. I look forward to working with your child this year.
My role is to support students to be successful in the mainstream classroom. I provide small group assistance in language arts and math. Small group instruction will usually take place in my classroom. My program may also provide in-class support and/or small group instruction for students who need supplemental reading and/or math instruction.
During in-class support, your child will be receiving the teacher's classroom lesson, but will benefit from the Remedial Specialist being available to further clarify, support, assist and redirect as needed. I will work closely with the classroom teachers, and all students in the class will have access to both teachers for assistance.
Please send emails to: siobhan.agnello@wwrsd.org
I will respond as soon as possible. You may also call the school and leave a message for me with the secretary. In return, I will contact you if there is something that I'd like to discuss.
Here's wishing us all a wonderful school year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Agnello
*Ways to help your child succeed*
The loveliest flowers usually have the best gardeners -- and that's you! Staying involved in your child's education is the key to a successful year. Engage your child in conversation about his/her day, but know that children won't always give out much information. Check your child's work daily. You can use this as a springboard for discussion; instead of saying "What did you do at school today?" (the answer is often "nothing"), you can say, "Oh, I see you"re learning about....what did you find out?"
