Dear Parents,
It has been my privilege to teach your child this year. Your child has worked hard, and has learned so much! I want to wish you and your family a well deserved summer break! It is a great time to relax and unwind.
It is common for students to backslide during this time off. For that reason, I would like to share some tips to help prevent the “summer slide”.
1 . Read with your child everyday, or as often as possible. Even if it’s for just a few minutes...every little bit helps! You might take a trip to the library, and let them choose the books! If your child has LEXIA, please use it as much as you can this summer. It is a great resource!
2 . Surprise them with a special summer notebook. It might be fun for them to keep a diary over the summer. You can set aside a special time when they can write. Ask them if they can find anything in their sentence that might need fixing (capitals, spelling, punctuation). Make it fun, and praise them for their thoughts and writing skills!
3 . Keep up the math skills...please (fact practice especially)! Play some math games...there are plenty online like abcya.com, xtramath.com & ixl.com.

I am happy to help answer any questions you may have!
I promised my students that if I saw they had gone online to practice facts or kept a reading log over the summer, they’d be rewarded in the fall with extra DOJO points! I hope these tips are beneficial to you and your child!
Best,
Mrs. Agnello
