Remote Summer

2020

As We Go Virtual:

Our 2020 summer program began running remotely on July 6th. The plan, under these unique circumstances, was to provide our students with small group virtual instruction focusing on individual academic and learning needs with a concentration in language arts and math skills. Inclusive within our plan was to focus on our ELL learners and provide those students reading, writing, and math through virtual small group instruction.

We are always proud and excited to showcase how our students are engaged and learning even under the most challenging times. Our newsletters are intended to provide essential information to our families and foster a connection within our virtual learning environments.

Testimonials:

Thank you, SO MUCH, for all your support and magic to have made July's virtual summer sessions happen! So much uncertainty but somehow it all worked out.... and kinda amazingly! The kids were engaged and actually looking forward to our sessions together. Thank you for your encouragement to partake because those sessions and time seeing the kiddos made my days brighter!

If remote learning continues into the 2020-21 school year it would be nice to see programs made for remote learning be used (like the guided reading program)

Between basic skills and extended school year my kids were actively engaged everyday. Great staff picks for summer school!

Ms. Alepa was great and Ms. Scaduto had excellent support of the teachers. Great work!

Principal Scaduto was thorough in her communications and prompt with reply to families. Always a pleasure to deal with her. Her dedication and love to her profession and the families of Westwood shows in her daily interactions and in the work and quality programing that she provides.

I was very happy to see that all basic skills students were able to participate in the program this year. I feel that my child will have less summer slide because of the successful program.

The class was very fun and interesting. I enjoy being able to practice my skills.

Things went very smoothly. No suggestions at this time.

keep doing work like this.

The only hiccup I saw was doing this virtual and the teachers not having a rapport from the get go. In our case a 10 minute zoom fixed the hurdle and it was smooth sailing. If the teachers could do that with every student in advance of the start it would be great. The only thing better would be no COVID and in person classes next year-
