Ms. Yoo
Welcome to my website! I am the Vocal Music Director and General Music Teacher (Guitar/Music Tech) at the Westwood Regional Middle School. Previously, I was the General Music and Choir teacher at both Berkeley and Brookside Elementary Schools (2008-2023) and loved making music with the elementary-aged students. Now, I am beyond excited for this next chapter in my music career working alongside Mrs. Peterson and Mr. Barbieri at WRMS.
My Background in Music:
I graduated from the John J. Cali School of Music (at Montclair State University) with a B.A. in Music Education, and completed my Master's in Music Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. I have been playing classical piano since I was six years old, and have also learned to play many different instruments through my undergraduate and graduate programs. I performed in my school choir from elementary school through college, and truly believe there is something so special about singing together in a group.
My music philosophy:
Music has always been my outlet for self-expression and creativity. My aim in the classroom is to provide all students with the grounds to discover and develop their own interests in music through engaging and relatable activities. I promise to encourage each child to think, take risks (and to not be afraid of mistakes!), perform, share, create, appreciate and be open to new experiences.
A little more about me:
When not at WRMS, you may find me playing piano for various district music concerts, or chaperoning the fun M.S and H.S. band/choir trips! When not in school, I enjoy gardening, practicing yoga, reading books, traveling to new places, and creating memories with my family.
