Some of our students require more extensive supports, and as a result we provide them with opportunities to participate in small group adaptive specials that are tailored to their needs and ability levels. Each week these students participate in Adaptive Physical Education twice a week and Media, Art, Music and Spanish once a week. Through these specials our teachers create sensory based modified lesson plans that focus on each student’s goals, while also connecting to their respective subject areas. Furthermore, during these specials our related service providers often push in to provide therapies and support.
Aligning with our mindset towards individualized instruction and inclusive opportunities, our students who do not require this level of support in Specials have the opportunity to participate in these courses in a mainstream environment with their peers in their general education homeroom. Within this opportunity our students still receive the support of a 1:1 ABA Aide, as well as differentiated instruction and modifications to meet their needs.
