AP Chemistry

Course Information

Course Description:

This second year course in chemistry includes a strong laboratory component involving both group and individual work. This is a college level course for students who are interested in going deeper into chemical theories and whose mathematical capabilities allow them to solve complex, multi-step problems. All major topics in the AP curriculum are covered with emphasis on kinetics, equilibrium, acids/bases. Some independent learning is expected. All students must do an independent research project at the end of the year, and must take the AP exam offered in May. Sufficiently high scores on this exam are considered as equivalent to course credit in chemistry by many colleges.

Testing Policy

If you are in class at the time of the test…

All in class tests are made with the amount of class time taken into account and hence students are expected to finish tests within the period it is given. Extra time may be requested but is not promised. Extra time is at the teacher’s discretion and decided upon on an individual basis (unless otherwise discussed).

But I didn’t know there was a test…

All tests will be announced before they arrive and a review will be run in class the period before a test. Students are expected to pay attention to such announcements and if unsure, check teacher’s website to keep on top of assessment dates (https://sites.google.com/wwrsd.org/alyciamckaba).

But I’m confused on ________ (insert topic here)…

The student is responsible to come to extra help or ask questions in class (questions in class might lead to teacher noting that extra help should be attended) about the topic that is confusing them. I am available for extra help EVERY morning starting at about 7:20 AM and after school every day except for MONDAY.

But I was absent…

Students absent the day before a quiz/ test will be required to take the quiz/ test on the scheduled day if no new material was covered, even if they miss a review period. Missing a review period is NOT a valid excuse for putting off a test or quiz.

Teacher may decide to allow an extension of time. The allowance of a test to be made up is not guaranteed.

If you are not in class at the time of the test…

If you are not present for a test, you become responsible for setting up a time to make up the assessment by discussing with teacher the NEXT time you are in class.
