This course covers 8th grade NJSLA standards in preparation for high school Algebra I, as well as future courses, such as Geometry. Topics include: numbers and operations with real and rational numbers, solving equations, absolute value, ratios and proportions, rate of change, and slope. Additional topics include writing, solving and graphing linear equations and inequalities, systems of equations, and inequalities and graphing absolute value. Topics in both two and three-dimensional geometry include transformations, congruence, similarity, and understanding and applying the Pythagorean Theorem. Appropriate use of technology will be emphasized throughout. It is recommended that students purchase a scientific calculator for classroom and home use in preparation for NJSLA Grade 8 Mathematics assessment in the Spring. Students enrolled in this course will be enrolled in Algebra I in 9th grade.
