Diplomacy:
Diplomacy is a key attribute of Model UN, requiring delegates to engage in respectful debates, listen actively, and approach global issues with an open mind. Delegates are expected to maintain a diplomatic demeanor at all times. Personal attacks, disruptive behavior, and inappropriate remarks are strictly prohibited. North MUN holds diplomacy to the highest regard, and violations of this standard may result in disqualification from awards. In addition, Chairs, Staffers, and all adults/parent volunteers are to be treated with respect inside and outside of committee. Your cooperation only ensures your own success and fosters an environment that promotes lively debate and creativity.
Pre-Writing Policy
NorthMUN enforces a strict zero-tolerance policy against pre-writing, defined as the act of drafting clauses for working papers prior to the start of the conference. The principles of Model United Nations focus on collaboration and fairness among delegates working together to develop a collective resolution. Thus, pre-writing undermines the core values that North MUN upholds. Any violation of this policy will be treated with the utmost seriousness and may result in disqualification from the conference. If you have any knowledge of a delegate pre-writing, you are expected to reach out and contact northmun@gmail.com. An inability to do so will result in the same consequences as conducting the act itself.
Pre-Bloccing Policy
North MUN does not support or condone any actions of pre-bloccing, and doing so will result in an immediate disqualification. Pre-bloccing refers bloccing (collaborating with other delegates about solutions and resolutions) before committee has begun. This prevents the intentional decision-making skills that are at the core of MUN from being developed, as the concept of bloccing and forming connections in unfamiliar settings will be inapplicable if pre-bloccing is used. If you are contacted regarding pre-bloccing or notice it happening, you are obligated to reach out and report this to northmun@gmail.com. Failure to report such incidents will result in the same consequences as engaging in the act itself.
Artificial Intelligence Policy
In order to preserve the integrity of NorthMUNC, delegates are expected to conduct their own research and refrain from using AI, which includes platforms such as ChatGPT, CoPilot, Gemini, etc. The use of AI in or before committee is prohibited and may result in consequences such as disqualification from awards as AI undermines the goals of inspiring creative debate that NorthMUNC strives to uphold. If someone you know is utilizing AI inappropriately for creating solutions, writing their position paper, or anything else that relates to the conference, reach out and report to northmun@gmail.com.
