General Assembly Overview
Piracy is a crime as ancient as the art of seafaring, and it still grapples society today. Trillions of dollars' worth of goods passes through sea routes, and yet piracy continues to threaten lives, disrupt trade, and destabilize entire nations.
Delegates in the General Assembly will come together to address this multifaceted crisis. They will have to consider international legislation, the roles of private actors and coastal states, and the rights of seafarers. They will also have to explore deeper causes, such as how poverty reigns in unstable nations or how maritime laws aren't properly addressed.
Delegates will be challenged to think beyond standard measures and instead approach the crossroads of security and development. Will the United Nations come together as one to combat pirates or will pirates continue to rule the oceans and destabilize seas?
