Drama Syllabus

 Suzanne Middle School Drama

This course provides a basic introduction into the art of theatre. Students will explore basic acting techniques, theatre terminology and history, critique of class performances and presentations, evaluation of theatrical productions and theatrical design. 

During this class students can expect to:

• Perform several memorized and staged scenes and monologues employing basic acting techniques 

• Critique class performances using a set of standardized criteria 

• Contribute ideas and activities to add to the success of the class 

• Use their knowledge of design and technique to analyze video/theatrical productions or Videos used in class will never be rated higher than PG-13

• Participate and/or perform in drama class productions 

The course will be graded on the following criteria: 

Class Participation - 35%, Homework - 30%, Tests, Quizzes and Performances - 35% 

Class Expectations: 

Cell Phones: Cell phones, airpods, earbuds, must be kept in backpacks/bookbags during class. Cell phones must be silenced or turned off. There is to be NO UNAUTHORIZED RECORDING OR PHOTOGRAPHY.

It is the belief of Suzanne Middle School that successful academic performance and good citizenship is important for all students. Therefore, in order to participate in extracurricular activities, all students must demonstrate these standards by maintaining their eligibility. Students who drop below eligibility levels will not be able to perform with the class until grades are improved.  Any student failing a class(es), is required to meet with the teacher(s) and develop an action plan to get caught up. Participation in a Drama activity is NOT a reason to miss an academic commitment.

In addition, as a member of the class:

• I agree to attend all rehearsals for which I am scheduled 

• I will remain at rehearsals until the rehearsal is completed or I am excused 

• If I have any conflicts that will prevent me from attending rehearsals, I will inform Mrs. Pop at least one week ahead of time. 

• I agree to assist with the productions of the shows in any capacity 

• I agree to meet “off book” deadlines by having my lines and/or music memorized 

• I understand that I am part of a team. I will maintain a positive attitude and will trust and respect my directors, cast members and crew. I will not criticize or tease my team members 

• I understand this class and our shows require collaboration and I agree to contribute my ideas energy at appropriate times 

• I agree to do all I can to make classes and rehearsals the best they can be 

• I understand that during rehearsals I am to remain quiet until my part begins on stage 

• I understand that all rehearsals and shows are school functions, thus, all school policies will be strictly enforced 

• I understand that in order for maximum learning to take place in this environment I must act responsibly and take my tasks seriously 

• Once in the drama space I will act responsibly and show self-control and maturity
