Do Performing Art classes count as academic classes?


Yes. Most are listed as meeting the UC F requirement so they get the same weight as any other academic class.

Will participation in Performing Arts hurt my GPA?


That depends on you. Typically our Performing Arts groups have the highest GPA on campus. It will come down to how you manage your time.

Can I do Performing Arts and sports at the same time?


Yes. We want to students to be well rounded, so we encourage students to be as involved as they like.

Can I be involved in multiple Performing Arts groups?

Yes. We have quite a few students who do multiple programs.

Do I have to audition to be in a Performing Arts group?

Some of the more advanced groups require an audition, but every program has non-auditiion groups as well. Go to the individual program website for specific audition information.

Do I have to have experience to join a Peforming Art?

No. All skill levels and backgrounds are welcome


How do I get ahold of program directors if I have questions?

The Arts page will have list of teachers/director's and their email addresses.

I don't own an instrument and want to be in band. Can you provide one?

Yes. We can. We can also help you with what and where to purchase if you need.

Do you do any combined events with Performing Arts?

Yes. One of our most exciting performances is our spring musical. This combines Drama, Dance, Choir, and Instrumental Music. Past musicals include Les Miserables, Into the Woods, and Little Mermaid

How do I figure out my schedule, if I want to do multiple activities such as music and sports?

you can follow the direction and it will lead you to sample schedule that will help. You can also email the program directors and they will assist you.

If I take a full load of academic classes, can I stay in a Performing Arts group all four years?


Yes, but depending on what other activities and groups you want to participate in, you may need to take summer school.

Does it cost money to participate in Performing Arts?


Yes and no. It does cost money for things like costumes and travel, but no student will be denied access to any part of our programs due to lack of funds.

Do I have to be enrolled in a Performing Arts class to participate in the spring musical?

No, but it is highly recommended. The skills you learn in the classes will help you prepare for the auditions. For other drama performances such as the Fall Play and Children Theater, you must be enrolled in one of the Drama class.

If I do band, can I be in Concert Band and Marching Band?

Yes. Concert Band is an academic class that occurs during the regular class day, and Marching Band is your PE class that rehearses twice a week first semester only.

Is participating in Performing Arts helpful for college admission?

Yes. Most universities like well rounded students. Participation also shows a commitment to giving back to the school. The leadership opportunities you will get in Performing Arts are also a plus on applications.

Does Marching Band count as PE class?


Yes, as do dance classes

Do Performing Arts ensembles rehearse outside of school time?


Yes, some more than others, but the directors are very careful to make sure they do not interfere with academics, and other activities.

Can I do IB and Performing Arts?


Yes.
