ABOUT THIS PROJECT

This project was created to assist Brgy. Baybay in integrating Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) strategy into the Google MyMaps Geographic Information System (GIS).

• To locate and map hazard-prone areas in Brgy. Iloilo, Baybay, San Joaquin

• To locate and map community assets such as evacuation centers, community health centers, the police department, and the fire department.

• Create educational websites and Facebook posts to raise disaster awareness in the community.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

Barangay Baybay (formerly Barangay Bolbogan) is located along the shoreline between Barangay Siwaragan and Purok 5 San joaquin, iloilo. Barangay Baybay was once a part of Purok 5. It was so isolated because it is quite far from the National road. Before; the place was full of Pandan trees which were cut when someone plans to build a house. Gradually, the population became bigger. In 1970, Hon. Procopio Santamena (Mayor of San Joaquin that time) with Delfina Sarayno (Appointed Tenyente del Barrio of Bolbogan) decided to work together to separate Bolbogan (Baybay) from Purok 5. It was granted and the place was named Baybay. In this period, Hon. Condrado Norada was the Governor of Prov,ace of iloilo. Long before, the path going to Barangay Baybay was not yet developed. It was surrounded by rice fields. It was difficult for the inhabitants, especially the old people and students to walk from home to the market or school. Fishing and selling rice were the main livelihood of the residents. As years passed by, the undeveloped path was turned into a concrete road (barangay main road) which is now situated along the creek. Their patron Saint is Sr. San Vicente Ferrer and the annual fiesta is celebrated every 24t day of April. The first appointed Brey. Captain was Delfin Sardeñola for the year 1970-1980. He was succeeded by Anatalio Sasi during 1980-1989.

Immediately followed by,Hon. Romeo Matchan Sr. in 1989-2007. For the year 2007 up to June 31, 2018 Hon. Noel M. Belarmino, and on July 01, 2018 up to the present Hon. Vicente S. Savaris is the Punong Barangay of Baybay.
