Academic Integrity

Academic integrity is vital to student learning. Therefore, it is imperative that students must respect copyright law as well as refraining from plagiarism (borrowing or taking someone else’s ideas, words, or organization without properly attributing the information to the source). Fair use laws state that writers may quote small sections from a text without the author’s written permission in order to comment upon, parody, or otherwise create something new without breaking copyright law. The writer must credit the source of the quotation, information, or structure for this to qualify as fair use.
