This year we will review the basics of grammar, punctuation, spelling, vocabulary and sentence structure. Students will also learn the skills to speak and write informatively as well as learn proper research techniques. Will explore reading, listening and writing skills especially concerning short stories, letters and speeches in order to prepare students for National Exams. Many of our classes will focus on The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, which we will be reading.
This year students will learn to identify information gained through listening and complete tasks based on that information. Students will read, interpret, frame, analyze, and evaluate novels, (especially Hamlet) drama, poetry, non-fiction and short stories. Students will also demonstrate written proficiency in a variety of genres, with emphasis on persuasive writing and literary analysis. Students will clearly and effectively speak to inform and persuade an audience in preparation for national exams.
This one-year English course was designed to build a student’s repertoire of Language Arts skills for practical and theoretical real world tasks. Students will learn to investigate academic texts, construct supported interpretations and arguments for an authentic audience, and acquire academic habits of thought. Reading instruction will focus on developing critical reading skills for comprehension, interpretation, and analysis, especially with Wuthering Heights. In writing, students will develop skills through composing with specific purpose, situation, genre, and audience in mind. Students will write a variety of effective formal and informal texts. Students will also learn to integrate reading and writing, students will use an inquiry approach to analyze, synthesize, and make value judgments regarding text and writing. This course is designed to prepare students for college-level reading, writing intensive courses and national exams.
