Hello! I'm Mrs. Mann. I've been teaching secondary English Language Arts since 2009, and I've been teaching in Washington USD since 2013! The first 8 years I taught 7th grade ELA at Westmore Oaks K-8, and now I'm teaching ELA at River City HS.
I was born in San Francisco, CA and raised in the Bay Area, mainly Contra Costa County. I graduated from CSU Chico with a dual B.A. in English Education and Theatre Arts and met Mr. Mann while attending. We moved to Sacramento so I could attend CSU Sacramento to obtain my teaching credential, and we've been in the Sacramento area ever since! We're the proud parents of our daughter Audrey, who is in 3rd grade, and recently welcomed two kittens into the family.
When I'm not dropping knowledge bombs on unsuspecting students, you can find me reading (duh), watching movies, or crafting fun projects. Diet Pepsi (preferably from a soda fountain over crushed ice) and gummy candies are my love languages, and my second home is in the water - either swimming in a pool or feeling the ocean lap at my feet.
My father is Mexican-American, my mother is German-(with a sprinkling of Dutch)-American. Despite my father having black hair and dark brown eyes, which are typically dominant genes, I inherited my mom's lighter hair and eyes. Neither side can figure out where my curly hair came from, though!
For my focus in the Theatre Arts program, I studied Costume and Make-up Design. I almost pursued that career instead of teaching! I miss working in the theater, but I hope to pursue it again when our child is a little older. That said, I do know how to sew and make small facial prosthetics for stage makeup!
