The Train to Hire Program is a refugee resettlement and employment bridging initiative led by WUSC in partnership with The Shapiro Foundation. It supports the relocation of refugee healthcare professionals to Canada and their integration into meaningful employment opportunities across Nova Scotia.
Nova Scotia is facing a growing shortage of healthcare professionals, particularly in the pharmacy industry. The Train to Hire Program addresses this need by connecting skilled refugee young adults currently in Jordan with healthcare employers and supporting their transition into the Canadian workforce.
Through collaboration with Dalhousie University, participants have the opportunity to complete a bridging program that helps them meet Canadian licensing requirements, gain local experience, and adapt to the workplace environment.
The Train to Hire program is designed for talented and motivated refugee youth with healthcare backgrounds who are ready to contribute their skills to Nova Scotia’s healthcare system.
Eligible participants include:
Graduates from accredited academic institutions in Jordan, bringing strong academic foundations and professional training. Particularly those with a background in pharmacy.
Experienced professionals who are ready to enter the Canadian labour market and build meaningful, long-term careers in healthcare.
Motivated Youth professionals who are seeking new opportunities to apply their expertise in Canada.
Participants who are fluent in English and able to meet the communication demands of Canadian healthcare workplaces
The Train to Hire program provides participants with the tools, training, and support they need to successfully transition into Canada’s healthcare workforce. Through a combination of academic preparation, hands-on experience, and community support, participants gain both professional and personal readiness to thrive in Nova Scotia.
One-year covered sponsorship to support successful relocation and integration
Employment placements in local pharmacies and healthcare settings across Nova Scotia
Access to Dalhousie University’s bridging program for licensing and certification
Settlement support to help participants and their families adjust to life in Nova Scotia
