The overall grade in class is 50% Major Assessments and 50% Minor Assessments. All written assignments will be posted on Google Classroom. Examples of major assignments are labs, tests, and projects. Examples of minor assignments are labs, quizzes, worksheets, etc. Most labs are a minor assessment. Students will be told in advance when a lab will be a major grade.
Classwork is due by the due date or it is considered late. I try to be very generous with due dates. The district is committed to eliminating zeros, so students may submit late work for half credit. If there are extenuating circumstances, please let me know.
Students in Basic Foods 1 will be graded less on technique and final product. Their grade will be based off of safety/sanitation, amount of effort, following directions/recipes, learning/growth from their mistakes. Students in Professional Foods 3 and the Advanced 4 classes will be graded heavier on their ability to cook/bake independently, follow recipes with no mistakes, creatively think outside the box, tweak recipes, fix mistakes on their own, and performance during culinary competitions.
Overall grade will be made up of 50% major assessments and 50% minor assessments.
Major assignments are normally at-home cooking assignments, cleaning assignments, or projects.
Minor assignments are normally quizzes, worksheets, video assignments, etc.
Some things to remember about grading:
If you hand nothing in, it is a 0.
If an assignment is late, it is a 50%.
Assignments worked on in class are due by 2:30pm every day.
A typical week in our class might looks like this (this is all subject to change):
Monday-Cleaning Activity or Report option.
Tuesday-Unit study guide.
Wednesday-Unit worksheet/activity or youtube video.
Thursday-Teacher cooking video and coordinating quiz.
Friday-At-home cooking assignment or Report option
A career/culinary school video with coordinating assignment will be due every week. As well as, a Chopped video worksheet. These assignments will be worked on during downtime and are due Fridays.
