Please be on time to class. Most of the time, we get to work right away.
No cell phones in the kitchen. It is unsanitary to touch your cell phone while you are cooking, especially since others in your group will be eating your food.
Students in Basic Foods are allowed to miss 5 labs per marking period. After 5 labs, students will be required to complete a report for each lab missed. Students in Professional Foods and both Advanced classes are allowed to miss 3 labs per marking period.
Please come to class appropriately dressed for lab. Open toe shoes are strongly discouraged. Gloves are required if your nails are long and/or painted. Aprons must be worn in all levels of Foods classes. Long hair (boy or girl) must be tied back, tightly. Students who have longer hair but doesn't fit into a ponytail may wear a hair net or a hat. Hats and any other head covering must be removed when students leave the classroom.
I expect you to clean up after yourselves. The custodians are not responsible for cleaning tables, counters, and sinks. Please sweep the floor if you make a mess.
Food cabinets and Refrigerators are off limits to students.
Students are required to sample all of the dishes we make. Points will be lost if you don't. You must taste your food in order to cook/bake properly. The only exception is a religious reason or a documented allergy with the nurse.
What you put into this class, I will give you right back. You may not be the best cook in the class and that is OK, we will work on that together. As long as you are trying hard and willing to learn, that's all I need from you. I am committed to giving every one of my students as much 1 on 1 time that I can.
