College Algebra & Trigonometry - This course is designed to provide a comprehensive exploration of algebraic and trigonometric principles as well as preparing students for success in college level mathematics.  College Algebra and Trigonometry is a data-driven blended course consisting of classroom based instruction and the ALEKS web-based program.  The content of the course is an integration of Algebra and Geometry Review, Equations and Inequalities, Graphs and Functions, Polynomial and Rational Functions, Exponential and Logarithmic Functions, Trigonometric Functions, Trigonometric Identities and Equations. Real world applications will be solved using graphing calculator technology.  College readiness math skills will be measured through Accuplacer and/or ALEKS throughout the course. The curriculum is aligned to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards. 

ALEKS

What is ALEKS?    (From the ALEKS website)

Assessment and LEarning in Knowledge Spaces is a Web-based, artificially intelligent assessment and learning system.  ALEKS uses adaptive questioning to quickly and accurately determine exactly what a student knows and doesn't know in a course.  ALEKS then instructs the student on the topics she is most ready to learn.   As a student works through a course, ALEKS periodically reassesses the student to ensure that topics learned are also retained.  ALEKS courses are very complete in their topic coverage and ALEKS avoids multiple-choice questions.  A student who shows a high level of mastery of an ALEKS course will be successful in the actual course he or she is taking.

1. The ALEKS program will be used to supplement learning of each module.

2. You will be given a username and password for your account.

3. The ALEKS Pre-Test will be administered outside of class, but needs to be complete in order to complete the work in class.

4. All topics should be completed before the end of the semester.

5. During class, most of the time will be spent on the ALEKS program, but you will also be required to spend time at home on ALEKS.  Each week you will be given a quiz grade that will be based off of the time you have spent on the ALEKS program out of school.

Grading Policy

1. Major Assessments (Tests) = 50%

2. Minor Assessments (Homework/Classwork) = 25%

3. Minor Assessments (Quiz/Class Preparedness) = 25%
