We will be starting rainbow sight words (high frequency words) in our class and for homework. Students move on color levels based on the sight words they have mastered. Mastery means they can quickly read the word without sound out the letters, and can write the word from memory.

Every month, I will send home a zip lock bag with the sight words for that month. For homework every Monday, it will be to practice the words in the bag. The constant practice of sight words will help them get better at reading them. Sight words will help your child learn to read! This is a big component for Kindergarten standards.

Your child has mastered their sight words if the sight word list can be read:

• Instantly

• In any order

• NO long pauses

• NO sounding out
