Welcome to Careers

Course Description:  Students enrolled in this Business Course will guide students through the process of investigating and development of a college/technical school and career plan.  Students will explore career clusters, use interest and ability inventories to become aware of their career preferences, research educational requirements for a variety of chosen career paths, and prepare for the employment interview process.

Course Proficiencies:  

1. Conduct research to gain in-depth knowledge of career clusters that link to school subjects students are interested in.

2. Understand feedback generated from personal interest and ability inventories and connect the information to students’ career choices. 

3. Identify students’ work skills.

4. Gather career industry data such as geographic and demographic factors, education, working conditions, career responsibilities, career opportunity outlook and compensation.

5. Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of various career clusters by holding a classroom career fair.

6. Understand the informational career interview process.

7. Gather data on 2-year colleges or 4-year colleges and universities and the programs they offer.

8. Become familiar with technical and trade school programs.

9. Learn about the factors to consider when choosing a post-secondary educational training.  

10. Create basic resume and profile for On-line job resources.

11. Identify networking sources, and job opportunities through a variety of mediums.

12. Develop interviewing skills by creating checklists, mock interviews and follow up letters.

Grading:  Grading scale is based on Woodbridge Township School District established grading policy.  Marking period assignments are distributed as follows:  major assignments (Tests & Longer Projects) 50% and minor assignments (Quizzes & Shorter Projects) 50%.  Final Exam counts for 20% of final grade.
